How Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Should've Sounded

One of my favorite projects I’ve done. This video is part of my How It Should’ve Sounded series on YouTube. After having covered Marvel’s Spider-Man from 2018, it was only natural to continue to the successor spin-off, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

My thought process was to make something different from the original composition. Settling on a direction took a little thought, but it became clear — create a sound, blending the two ethnic sides of Miles Morales, Black American and Latino.

Despite it seeming clear, this ended up being a challenging video. After days of pondering, and even struggling, I discovered the issue. I had taken on the fear of being criticized, of being misunderstood, or maybe even canceled. I realized that as long as the approach was genuine, then there’s nothing to fear. I don’t have to make truly authentic Latin music to be inspired by the sound.

I stopped overthinking the music and finished the video. When I released the video, it quickly became the most popular video on my channel. So many Latinos, Afro-latinos, and African Americans expressed their surprise and gratitude for my take on the video game’s music.

This turned out to be ironic and pretty funny in hindsight; but most of all, it was a reminder to continue to be me.
