How Marvel's Spider-Man Should've Sounded
Up until this point, my How It Should’ve Sounded series on YouTube consisted of only Sonic Forces. I wanted to expand the scope of my content, so I wouldn’t be limited to one series. So, I decided to tackle one of my other favorite franchises: Spider-Man. This video would be different, because a lot of people love Spider-Man, and there’s a lot you can do, musically, for him. I would be remaking music for the game Marvel’s Spider-Man.
I decided to take it back to the 90s, and nostalgia. The 90s cartoon, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was one of my most loved cartoons, growing up. Among other great things, it featured a bombastic rock theme. So, the goal was to create a rock-based set of music for the open world aspects of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Some parts were a bit tricky, like creating combat music that captured the style of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, but also felt like it could be in a video game. I experimented with different keys for different segments of the open world gameplay. I created a sound bed for when Spider-Man is not swinging or fighting, so there’s still some level of music.
Overall, this was a great pivot in a different direction that allowed me to develop new skills with composing video game music.
