"Dastardly"
I love hero character themes! From Danny Elfman's Spider-Man (2002) to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003) theme, I love how composers can evoke a wide variety of emotions – from hope to expectation to determination. However, equally impressive are villain themes – capturing the essence of a bad guy supports the danger they pose and the stakes of their conflict with the hero.
Since I hadn't delved into it extensively, I wanted to try my hand at crafting a theme that would befit a no good, ambassador of evil. I gathered my orchestra tools and started brainstorming. To me, villain themes, like villain acting, come a bit easier because I can let loose and do things that might feel out of place in a hero theme.
In the end, the result was bright while also being sinister. And I was happy with how it turned out.
